UTI may be Symptomatic or Asymptomatic (colonisation without symptoms or signs of infection), Uncomplicated where the urinary tract is structurally and neurologically normal, invading organisms will be high grade uropathogens, usually grown in pure culture and not very antibiotic resistant or Complicated where the urinary tract is structurally or neurologically abnormal, hence lower degree pathogens can invade, hence often mixed cultures, and often multiply-antibiotic resistant due to multiple courses of antibiotics failing to address the predisposing cause.
